We’re looking to bring on some extra hands over the weekends!

We will be STRONGLY prioritizing QTIPOC hairdressers/barbers who are experienced in working with Black hair. If you are both/either, please mention so in your application!
Other folks are more than welcome to submit applications for future hiring opportunities.

Salary: $13.85/hr* plus tips
*We know you’re worth more than minimum wage, but this is the rate that everyone working at Big Bro’s Barbershop – including the shop owner – is currently taking home.
Hours: 5-14 hrs/week to start, over the span of Fri-Sun**
**Specific days and number of hours determined based on your needs.
Our current staff often need to take downtime for medical transition, mental health, or other reasons, so opportunities to work more will occasionally come up.

Responsibilities:
At Big Bro’s Barbershop, you are not only a hair service provider. An intimate understanding of LGTBQ2SIA communities – especially gender-creative youth and trans and intersex communities – is mandatory, as we are known for providing peer support for our clients. Lived experience as a trans person is a huge asset, but not absolutely necessary if you have been immersed in the trans community in some other way.
Experience in caring for folks with mental illnesses is also a major asset, as many of our clients who have experienced trauma (sometimes even from a salon-specific experience) come to Big Bro’s specifically for a gentle, understanding experience.

On top of hair services, you will be responsible for occasional sales and cash handling. You may be given a key and trusted to open and/or close the shop on your own.

Please already be equipped with the bulk of your own hair equipment (combs/shears/clippers) if possible; additional basics (sanitization, towels, odds and ends) can be provided by Big Bro’s. If you know of anything in particular that you’d need from us, please ask! We’re flexible folks.
